According to the most recent data available from Eurostat, for the period 2014 to 2016, 67% of Portuguese companies with 10 or more employees are innovative, with Portugal having the second largest percentage of innovative companies in European Union, only surpassed by Belgium (68%).

The European average was 51%, Austria is the sixth country in this ranking, with 62%.

Portugal also recorded the highest growth of this index, when compared with the previous period, from 2012 to 2014
